About

Background

The Asian Evaluation Week (AEW) is a leading evaluation knowledge sharing event in the Asia and Pacific region, jointly sponsored by the Ministry of Finance, PRC and the Asian Development Bank. Since 2016, Government officials, representatives of international organizations, and evaluation experts have gathered annually at the AEW to exchange knowledge and the latest thinking in evaluation.

Now in its fourth year, AEW has established itself as a highly relevant forum for promoting knowledge and partnerships to advance evaluation and development effectiveness at the country level.

Objectives

The objectives of the 2019 AEW are as follows:

  • To provide a venue for knowledge sharing on cutting-edge ideas on evaluation within Asia, and between Asia and other regions, such as Africa and Latin America.
  • To enable countries to share experiences on their evaluation approaches and gain knowledge on how to strengthen and use evaluation in their country context.
  • To allow experts and development partners to showcase progress in their evaluation works and recent practices on evaluation.
  • To increase awareness on the use and role of evaluation in development effectiveness.

Theme

Each AEW espouses a theme to focus attention on a specific issue related to evaluations at the country level. The theme for the 2019 AEW is “Quality Evaluation for Better Results: Local, National, Regional Perspectives”

What it's like to attend

  • I hope it is not too late to express how glad I am to have participated in the AEW 2018 and how useful I found the sessions. The conversation we had at the Panel also facilitated our conversation with the IMF team of the independent report. We agreed to advance the conversation during the upcoming spring meeting. So the AEW was also good networking opportunity.

  • I would like to thank you for a very informative and impactful conference. The networking opportunities, topics and knowledge shared were incredibly valuable. We look forward to next year’s event and would love the opportunity to participate more actively and bring some of the DBSA’s experiences and challenges to the discussion.

  • Those of us who were fortunate to experience the AEW have decided to initiate and encourage programs that will promote and formalize continuing evaluation of all things necessary to assist in our progress going forward in Federated State Micronesia. We would greatly appreciate any suggestions you or those responsible can provide to assist in our progression into this important area of evaluation.

  • I really appreciated the chance to be involved in the conference as well. I have just begun to become involved in impact evaluation and this conference allowed me to see it in a whole new light.
